Measure a lawn or yard from satellite imagery
SatelliteQuoter's measuring tool is a free way to measure a lawn, garden bed or driveway from satellite imagery: search the address, tap around the area, and the square footage (or m²) appears as you draw. No signup is needed, and you can cut out patios and beds so you only measure what you'll treat.
Measurements are estimates from satellite imagery. Confirm on site before ordering material.

Cut out what you don't treat
Draw a cut-out for a patio or walkway inside a bed and its area is subtracted.
Lawns and beds separately

Check the imagery date
Satellite photos can be months old. New patios, beds or fences may not show yet.

Frequently asked questions
Is the satellite measuring tool free?
Yes. The SatelliteQuoter measuring tool is free with no signup: search an address, outline lawns, beds or driveways on satellite imagery, and read the area in square feet or square metres. A paid plan is only needed to save quotes and send them to customers.
How do I measure my yard from satellite imagery?
Search the property address so the satellite map flies to it, choose the Area tool, tap around the lawn or bed, and tap the first point again to close the shape. The area appears on the shape. Draw each lawn and bed separately, and draw a cut-out for patios or walkways inside an area.
Can I measure lawn square footage on Google Maps?
Google Maps' Measure distance tool (right-click the map on a computer, then Measure distance) is documented for distances, not area. Google Earth's Measure tool does show area and perimeter once you close a polygon. A satellite measuring tool built for lawns shows the area as you draw and lets you subtract beds and patios.
How accurate are satellite yard measurements?
The area is calculated exactly from the outline you draw, so accuracy depends on how clearly the imagery shows the edges. Trees, shadows and months-old photos can hide lawn and bed edges, so treat satellite measurements as estimates and confirm on site before ordering sod, mulch or seed.
Does the measuring tool work in Canada?
Yes. Address search covers the US and Canada, and measurements switch between square feet and square metres with the ft / m toggle.
